Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy concentrated on the content of people's interactions based on the idea of a “Life Script”. TA is a theory of personality and personal growth and personal change.
The TA core model is the Ego-State (or Parent-Adult-Child, PAC) model. The ego states are shaped through by childhood experiences, parental and cultural influences which could damage them. Kinds of transaction are Reciprocal or Complementary Transaction. Phenomena behind the transactions build psychological pressure.
The approach has its roots in psychoanalysis but it put its emphasis on transactional analysis.
Focus on interpersonal interactions.
Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy places importance on the development of rationality and the use of reasoning as a counselling method.
The client is seen as an equal partner within a therapeutic relationship with the ability to change and grow.
The therapist considered:
* how the ego states affected each set of transactions;
* how individuals interact with one another.
Unproductive or counterproductive transactions were considered to be signs of ego state problems. Analyzing these transactions enable the person to avoid discomfort, changing these interactions, and solve emotional problems.
Transactional Analysis is recommended for anger, relationship problems and bereavement.
