Problem Solving Counselling is a highly structured form, suitable for clients with problems stressful circumstances.
It is effective for the less severe forms of mood disorder, with a greater emphasis on reducing arousal, brief, collaborative approach, involving the client fully.
Problem Solving Counselling focuses on current problems.
The first aim of counselling is to reduce a high level of emotional arousal (the first stage of crisis), with reassurance, express emotions.
The basic counselling techniques are combined with a systematic approach to the resolution of problems:
* identify and list problems that are causing distress;
* consider about practicable courses of action;
* select one problem, and try out the course of action;
* review the results and choose another problem for solution or choose another course of action.
Problem Solving Counselling is recommended for well-motivated people with stable personalities with crisis situations, major but transitory difficulties, after deliberate self-harm arising in response to a social crisis, problems stressful circumstances, for the less severe forms of mood disorder.
