Flooding refers to exposing the client to the anxiety-provoking or feared situation, all at once, and kept in it until the anxiety and fear subside.
The treatment starts from the situations near the top of the hierarchy, repeating processes with other near-maximal stimuli.
Aim: a rapid reduction of anxiety.
This approach is used infrequently as the experience may be distressing.
