Disorder of consciousness
Consciousness is awareness of the self and the environment.
The levels of consciousness are usually associated with the levels of alertness and wakefulness, form alertness to coma, such as coma, clouding of consciousness; stupor (in neurology); confusion, and the quality of consciousness such as sleep, stupor (in psychiatry).
The Altered Levels of Consciousness (ALC) theory states that a person's responsiveness to environmental stimuli is classified by their behavioural response.
Impaired consciousness is associated with disturbed orientation, thinking, interpretations of events; impaired attention, concentration, and memory. According to the level and quality, there are states of partial impairment of consciousness, such as oneiroid (dream-like) state, twilight state, torpor.
